St Patrick's Day Not So Lucky For Trucks At Sigel's

Just got word from Sigel's on Greenville Avenue that the trucks that are scheduled to park there tomorrow during the St. Patrick's Day Parade are not being allowed to do so, per the City of Dallas.  I know Yellow Belly, Tutta's and Taco Party where scheduled to be there, there may be one or two more, as well.  I'm really confused about this development because the same trucks that were scheduled to be there on Saturday are there every Friday night to serve. They all have Dallas permits, it is private property and they have the owner's permission to be there. In fact trucks have been parking at this exact location several times a week for almost 2 years.   But, it seems that the parade organizer's, the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association had already pulled a special events permit that supersedes the operational permits that the trucks hold for daily service.  If time had allowed, Sigel's could have pulled their own special permit, which would have allowed the trucks to be onsite. But with late Friday afternoon notification, there just wasn't time to pull that permit.

I do wish that the trucks could have been given more notice. Within 24 hours of an event, food has been purchased and the preparation has started.  The luck of the Irish was Yellow Belly and Tutta's, as they were able to join the Dallas Art District's Spring Break Block Party tomorrow.

I do find it beyond frustrating that almost 2 years into the food truck scene the confusion about allowable locations, events and last minute cancellations still exist in Dallas.   This isn't the first time Sigel's has had a truck event cancelled. Hopefully it will be the last.

  1. It's a power play with the other food places that know they can't compare with the food trucks
