First Bite Gourmet - One of the trucks that I am most interested in learning more about is First Bite. This truck was born out of desire to feed people, feeding those who are not able to afford eating at a food truck. From that desire, First Bite was developed, with the equivalent of the "first bite" of each meal being donated to feed the homeless. I've had half of one of First Bite's carne asada sandwiches and can tell you that it is very good!
Horns N Snouts - Horns N Snouts is a barbecue trailer that I learned about when they worked an event in December. I am not sure if Horns N Snouts intends to only work special events or if they plan to have service in Fort Worth. You can follow Horns N Snouts on Twitter to get their latest locations.
Ketzler's Schnitzel Shack - one of the things that I think the DFW food truck scene is lacking is a larger variety of region specific and ethnic cruise. With Ketzler's Schnitzel Shack, the scene gets better by adding German food to the streets. The truck is operated by German immigrants and their website indicates that they serve food from the North-Westfahlen Germany region. With authentic schnitzel and other German delicacies, I expect this truck to be very popular. You can follow the truck on Facebook and Twitter to get its schedule, which is primarily in Fort Worth.
Pompeii DFW - After a stint on the now closed SCI truck, Chef Audra is bringing Italian food back to the streets on the Pompeii DFW truck. With a menu that changes regularly, Audra is serving fresh pasta, arancini, Italian sandwiches and caprese salad in both Dallas and Fort Worth. Follow Pompeii on Facebook and Twitter to find out where the truck can be found and their menu items of the day.
Ruthie's Creperie - Ruthie's third concept has rolled out and is taking customers to the streets of Paris. This truck serves both sweet and savory crepes. I was able to try the Nutella crepe and the words "c'est magnifique" come to mind. Follow Ruthie's on Facebook and Twitter to know where all three of their concepts (grilled cheese, cheesesteak and creperie) are rolling.
Unforsacon Bacon - 2012 was the year of bacon and DFW added a new bacon truck to the line up when Chef Adam West, formerly the Executive Chef at Hotel ZaZa in Houston came back to Dallas to open a food truck. With a menu of bacon sandwiches, tacos and other bacon based items, this truck is sure to be a winner. The truck operates primarily in Garland and you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter for exact locations.
Gina's Organic Kitchen - Along with opening an organic commissary kitchen, Chef Gina Paterno Villalobos has opened an event truck, Gina's "Health Rescue Unit". The Health Rescue Unit is a restyled former SWAT ambulance. The Rescue Unit offers nutrient-dense food and healthy desserts. Simply Dosa - Dallas-Forth Worth's newest Indian food truck, from Bombay Chopsticks owner, Simply Dosa is a 100% Indian truck with vegan and vegeterian items on the menu. The truck serves dosa, which the truck owner describes as "like a crepe", originating in Southern India. The truck has been serving in both Fort Worth and Dallas and uses the same Facebook and Twitter pages as its sister truck, Bombay Street Food.
The Mobile Stand - The Stand Restaurant on McKinney is closed but the concept now lives as a food truck. Bringing "fair food" to the streets of Dallas, this truck offers burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. I don't know if the menu on the truck is the same menu that was in the restaurant, but this looks like a fun truck. You can follow the Mobile Stand on Facebook and Twitter to find their fair food.
The Snackin' Wagin' - The SMU campus has a dedicated food truck now, with The Snackin' Wagin'. This truck opened right as finals were beginning and I don't have a lot of information on it yet. Hopefully as students start heading back to class for the Spring Semester I will be able to get more information about their menu. You can follow the Snackin' Wagin' on Twitter.
Epic Cones - After success with a brick and mortar, Epic Cones is bringing their pizza cones to the streets. Using a mini size vehicle the company is doing some test runs now but should have their dough made cones with pizza or burger fillings out and about soon. Luckily for all of these trucks, the Clearfork Food Park opened in December in Fort Worth. This Park is a nice addition to the Fort Worth truck scene. It is open 7 days a week and has plenty of parking and seating, including a heated pavilion. Clearfork is on both Facebook and Twitter.
I have been able to eat at several of these trucks and am excited about having them on the streets in 2013!
