Tiffany Harelik is an Austin based food truck blogger and cookbook series author. The second volume of her Austin edition of the Trailer Food Diaries was released in October 2012. I recently purchased a copy of the cookbook and have already fallen in love with it.
The cookbook is broken down in to sections on Drinks, Appetizers, Sides, Sauces, Handheld Items, Dinners, Desserts and dog treats, all provided by an assortment of food trailers operating in Austin. Additionally, there is a section of recipes from trailers based in San Marcos. Along with the recipes, there are short introductions to the concepts and owners that are bringing these and much more food to the streets of Austin and San Marcos.
What I like most about this cookbook is the variety of recipes it has. Whether you have a taste for Strawberry Basil Smoothies from MamboBerry or Fried Pickles from SoCo to Go or Goat Cheese Hush Puppies from Kiss My Grits or Baja Shrimp Tacos from Torchy’s Tacos or Gluten Free Vegetable Lasagna from Snap Pod or Avocado Sorbet from Ice Cream Social, this book has it all, along with approximately 100 more recipes.
The pictures of the food and trailers in the book are beautiful and the back stories, be them of the history of Austin street food or a profile of the owners and chefs makes the book become more than just a collection of recipes. Add in tips for operating a food trailer and the book offers everything any street food enthusiast needs.
I think many of you will like this cookbook as much as I do, so I am giving away a copy to one lucky blog reader. To enter, please leave a comment on this blog, (not on Facebook or Twitter) and let me know one of the following:
- What DFW food truck item would you most like to have the recipe? or
- What type of food do you wish was being served on the streets of DFW or
- What’s your favorite cookbook, whether street food related or not?
Comments will close at 8:00 am CST on 1/21/13. At that time I will randomly select a comment and send that person a copy of the cookbook. Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you if you are the winner. I promise not to spam you or contact anyone who is not a winner.
If you want to order the Trailer Food Diaries
Cookbook, Austin Edition Volume 2 you can get it on Amazon
at Trailer Food Diaries Cookbook: Austin Edition, Volume II (American Palate)
. Disclaimer: that’s an affiliate link, so I
get a tiny, itty bitty portion of the cost of the sale if you go through this
link. Not even enough to buy a meal at one of the Austin trailers, but I did want you to know why the link is there.
And a final disclosure, while I follow Trailer Food
Diaries and think that Tiffany Harelik is really cool, I don’t know her personally, she
didn’t ask me to do this review. I wasn’t
compensated for this review and of course, just like when I write about the food trucks, all opinions are my own. I just wanted to tell you about the cookbook
because it is really well done and has a direct relationship to this blog and
the interests of many of you. And I wanted to do a giveaway to show my appreciation of all of my readers. Finally, stay tuned, Tiffany has announced that there will be a Dallas edition of the Cookbook series in the works in 2013, so some of our favorite trucks may find their way to print.

ReplyDeleteHello there! I would like to see a truck that specializes in shrimp and\or seafood. Seafood from a truck sounds sketchy but all of these trucks are professionals and I'm sure it'll be great. I would call it "Shrimp Happens". lol

I think it would be great to have the recipe for the southern hospitality on the Butchers son! They have the best food!

DFW does not have that much Latin food (Tex Mex doesn't count). I would propose a Peruvian Food Truck (or south american region...). I'm not peruvian, but I love that type of food! Lomo Saltado, ceviche, caldo de gallina, salchipapas, etc. The flavors are great and I know people out there would love it once they try it.
