Food Truck Events Kick Off Summer of 2012

With it now being summer you might think the food truck events that we saw in April and May would slow down, but that is not the case. The trucks and event planners are taking full advantage of the slower pace of summer to bring you events that offer fun and food for the whole family. The start times of most of the events are being pushed back to the evening hours to work around the heat.

Food Truck Tuesdays at the Red Cross – Each Tuesday, the Red Cross North Texas Region will host two food trucks for lunch at their office at 4800 Harry Hines Blvd from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The schedule for June is

Street Food Wednesdays continues every Wednesday in the parking lot of Crate & Barrel, 3104 Knox Street in Dallas, starting at 6:00 p.m.  Sponsored by the DFW Street Food Coalition, each week a variety of trucks will be open to feed the entire family.

Thursday Night Bites - Through June U.S. Food Trucks will be bringing the food trucks to Addison every Thursday night.  Each week five trucks set up at Vitruvian Park 3875 Ponte Ave.  Complimentary beer and a dj are also helping bring the fun to your summer dinner.

June 2 is First Saturday at the Arts District and the food trucks will be on site for your lunch needs while browsing the free or discounted museums in the Arts District. FourSeasons, Green House, Rock & Roll Tacos, Gandolfo’s, Tin Star Taco Taxi, TX Delizioso, and Coolhaus will be set up at 2121 Flora. More details about First Saturday can be found on the Art District website.

June 7 “The Parking Lot” returns to 1800 Henderson from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. courtesy of the DFW Food Truck Group.  Participating trucks include Rock & Roll Tacos, Jack’s Chowhound, Good Karma Kitchen, Ruthie’s Rolling Café, Semplice Cibo Italiano, Enticed, Nammi and Cajun Tailgators

June 9 brings two events.

First, the trucks will be serving in the Dallas Arts District as part of the Second Annual BooksmART Festival. The festival will be a day long celebration of books and their authors, with speaking engagements and book signings. More details can be found on the Arts District website.

Second is the Addison Food Truck Festival, sponsored by US Food Trucks. 12 trucks will be serving, along with music from the Beat Breakerz, with entertainment and fun for everyone.  The festival will be at Vitruvian Park, 3875 Ponte Ave from 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

June 15 – Summer Block Party in the Arts District. In 2011, the Summer Block Party was the first event in which the food trucks participated.  If you talk to the owners who were there, they all have stories of being overwhelmed and realizing that they loved being a food truck owner, all in the same night.  These trucks have come a long way since then and they are all looking forward to celebrating the anniversary of the event that they really got the food truck scene moving in Dallas. The truck line up has not been released yet but check the Arts District website closer to the 15th for more details.
June 16 – LH StrEATS – Some of my followers in Lake Highlands have been asking for the food trucks to come to that area of Dallas for months and the call is being answered. The Lake Highlands Branding Committee is sponsoring a food truck rally raising money to create a common brand for Lake Highlands. The food truck rally will take place on Sat. June 16, from 6 – 9 pm at the Lake Highlands Town Center. Admittance to LH StrEATS will be $5.00 per each person over 12. The food trucks scheduled to be at LH StrEATS are:  Gandolfo's NY Deli, The Butchers Son, EasySlider,  Nammi Truck, Coolhaus, Jo Dawgs, Ssahm Korean BBQ, Good Karma Kitchen, So-Cal Taco's and Rockstar BakeShop.

June 20 – Chef DAT Underground Dinner at the Fort Worth Food Park. On Wednesday, June 20th the Fort Worth Food Park will be teaming up with ChefDavid Anthony Temple (aka Chef DAT) and Hunter Johnson, owner of the CityStreet Grille Food Truck, for a very special evening at the Food Park.  Chef DAT will be creating a unique 5-course dinner experience using local seasonal ingredients.  Also, on hand will be Brad Hensarling, owner and cocktail extraordinaire of the Usual and The Chat Room, serving up a delicious cocktail.  Tickets are $75/person and go on sale Wednesday, June 6th.  Tickets will be available at the Food Park and online.  The event is BYOB if anyone desires something beyond the cocktail.

June 30 – Food Truck Festival at Valley View Mall. It is an opportunity to revisit the successful Food Truck Festival at Valley View Mall, sponsored by U.S. Food Trucks. This one will be half the size, with 15 food trucks and less than half the time, running from 3:00 – 10:00 on Saturday but I predict it will be twice the fun.  More details about which trucks will be forthcoming. Be sure to follow US Food Trucks on Facebook and Twitter to get the information first.

Along with the regular service at the Arts District, Fort Worth Food Park and Cowtown Chowdown, this June is going to be filled with tasty food from the DFW Food Trucks!

Chef DAT to Create Dinner at Fort Worth Food Park

This afternoon I received an exciting email from Chris Kruger, owner of the Fort Worth Food Park.  The email states:

On Wednesday, June 20th the Fort Worth Food Park will be teaming up with Chef David Anthony Temple (aka Chef DAT) and Hunter Johnson, owner of the City Street Grille Food Truck, for a very special evening at the Food Park.

Chef DAT will be creating a unique 5-course dinner experience using local seasonal ingredients.  Those that have attended his Underground Dinner events (www.chefdat.com) already know his suppers are not to be missed.

Also, on hand will be Brad Hensarling, owner and cocktail extraordinaire of the Usual and The Chat Room, serving up a delicious cocktail.  Live music will be provided by Chris Johnson of Telegraph Canyon.  A portion of the proceeds will go toward a local farmer's initiative.

Tickets are $75/person and go on sale Wednesday, June 6th.  Tickets will be available at the Food Park and online.  The event is BYOB if anyone desires something beyond the cocktail.

This should be a truly unique experience and Fort Worth is lucky to be hosting Chef DAT, so don't miss it!

I am very excited about this event, where all the food will be prepared on the City Street Grille Truck, one of my favorite trucks and I have heard that Chef DAT's cooking is absolutely amazing. This is going to be such a fun event for everyone!.

Rock and Roll Tacos Opens a Restaurant on May 31

Rock And Roll Tacos:  Music To Your Mouth

Dallas, Texas, May 22, 2012 – What sounds delicious and will turn your taste buds up to 11?

A New Restaurant in Deep Ellum, that’s what! Rock and Roll tacos will be opening their doors to the public at their grand opening on May 31, 2012 inside La Grange at 2706 Elm Street.

Rock and Roll Tacos resurrects Rock & Roll, the timeless blending of musical traditions topped off with sour cream and house Salsa.  The restaurant is located in La Grange, which has been open for three years.  Although new to the restaurant business, James Quinonez and his wife, Mary Ann Quinonez, have joined forces with La Grange owners Stephanie and Rob Schumacher to open this rocking new restaurant.  Before starting the restaurant, James and Mary Ann were already well known for supplying gourmet food to Dallas with their premier food truck.  Although these trucks serve a wide variety of food, Rock and Roll Tacos is a decidedly Mexican restaurant with a rock and roll feel.  Lining the walls are classic, vinyl albums representing a variety of artists and styles.  From Chumbawumba to Depeche Mode, the walls of this restaurant are a who’s who of classic rock, as well as all around good music.  Further adding to ambiance is the truck bed of a 1954 Chevy which has been converted into a salsa bar.  Finally, tying the restaurant together is the Gubar, a massive guitar transformed into a table top.  You’ll need to see it to believe it.

James and Mary Ann plan to go all in with serving lunch, happy hour, dinner.  Insomniacs, don’t worry, they serve late night as well.  On Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant serves its full menu until 4am. Beyond that, Rock & Roll Tacos plans on making each experience memorable, with their Funday Sunday Brunch, the team preparing food on the patio outside, and even a snow cone tiki bar.

Rock & Roll Tacos is in for some busy nights, so be sure to mark your calendars and get there early to experience the taste of rock and the sound of tacos!  Rock and Roll may be on the decline, but James Quinonez is bringing it back.  And the taste is better than ever.

Thanks to Rock and Roll Tacos for sharing this press release. Congrats on your new location to compliment the food truck!
