Thursday Nite Bites to End in Addison

Of all the locations that the trucks set up for dinner, Vitruvian Park in Addison is one of my favorites. It has all the things you want in a truck location: plenty of green space, plenty of near-by parking and easy access. The trucks also love this location because it has such a great turn-out, week after week and was sufficiently removed from any restaurants, so there was no competitive disadvantage to any anyone and in an area where they did not frequently operate.

Sadly, I have heard that tonight will be the last Thursday Nite Bites at this location. The property owner has decided to go a different direction and focus their resources on weekend events.  I am puzzled by this decision, I understand the community wanting to build-up their weekend events but, since U.S. Food Trucks managed the food truck event, I would expect that not a lot of the community resources were being used each week.

It is ironic that this announcement comes this week, three weeks ago I was noting that there were a lot of events on Thursday nights. So much so that I wondered if we needed additional trucks on the road in order to properly serve all of the locations. At the same time, the weather was still hot, the kids were back in school and turn-out was lower in some locations than the trucks would have liked. Since then, Cedars Food Truck Park has ended their Thursday night service and now this location is closing. At the same time, the weather has changed and it is perfect food truck weather.

I will keep you posted on Facebook and Twitter as to where the trucks land on Thursday nights, hopefully in an area near this. I know U.S. Food Trucks is working to find another option.
